Bangladesh has severe electricity shortage, 70% of the nation is without electricity. The irrigation depends on natural rainfalls and diesel generators. Bangladesh is rich in solar radiation, with great support from government and NGOs, hundreds of solar pumping systems have been built all over the country, the improved irrigation conditions helped a lot improving people’s living and income standards.

In 2014, Solartech PSA7500 solar pumping system was installed in Jessore, it can produce water 750m3 daily at 18m water head for irrigation of a 4-acre farm, the sufficient water supply enables 3 harvests per year. The cost of solar pumping is only 60% comparing to diesel pumping. Started from 2008, Solartech cooperated with Bangladesh Ministry of Agriculture in solar water conservancy researches and applications. Now Bangladesh has established national policies to promote solar agriculture irrigation, opening up a new way of renewable agriculture technology development for South Asian countries.
