Smart Solutions Solve Water Problem With Solartech Solar Pumping Systems

It’s expected that scope, extent and frequency of extreme weather in the future are all increasing due to global warming.Frequent droughts will be one of main threats in agricultural production and food security. Facing climate change and frequent droughts, innovation in agricultural production and management model can effectively secure agricultural production.
 
Solartech solar pump system, also known as solar photovoltaic pumping system, converts solar energy into the potential energy of water.  System consists of solar pumping inverter, water pump and solar array. PV array is made up of multiple solar panels connected in series /parallel and supplies power to the whole system by converting solar radiation energy to electricity. Through controlling and adjusting the system, solar pumping inverter converts DC current from PV array into AC current to drive water pump and adjust the real-time output power according to the strength of sunlight radiation. Pump driven by AC motor draws water from deep well, river or other water sources into tank or pond, or connect directly to irrigation system or other systems. Centrifugal, axial-flow, mixed-flow and deep –well pumps all can be utilized.
 
Solartech pumping system eliminates energy storage mechanism and replaces it with water storage and directly drives water pump with stability and sufficient power, in the mean time lowering the cost of system and maintenance greatly .For China’s arid and semi-arid mountain area with scattered settlements and inconvenient transportation, power supply is difficult and providing power for water pumping is the main constraint in the development of water resource in these areas. Solar pumping system is perfectly suitable for areas without grid. As long as there is sufficient sunlight radiation and water sources, solar pumping system can pump water with solar energy and is easy and convenient for installation and operation, shortening the construction period greatly. Solar pumping system runs independently without human intervention and no need for high cost battery energy storage devices, perfectly solves the power problem in arid regions without electricity.
 
The solartech system is more economical when compared with Diesel water pumping system. Diesel water pumping system is relatively low in initial investment but as operation time increases, operation and maintenance cost will increase dramatically. Solar pumping system is relatively high in up front non- recurring expense, but zero operating expense, and there is only a small amount of maintenance. Judging from cost of water discharge, solar is most economical when compared with diesel pumping and electricity pumping.
 
Calculated in the long run, 25 years of service life of 8kW  PV pumping system, total cost is CHY 154,621 and running cost is CHY 120,159. One set of 5.5 kW diesel pumping system, total cost is CHY 11,528 and running cost is CHY 2,514,137. Unit cost of these two kinds of equipment is even after three years. Taking into account that solar panel prices are falling and oil prices are rising, the even time will be even shortened. With same discharge, unit cost per cubic meter of diesel pumping is CHY 1.54 and solar pumping system is CHY 0.17, 89% lower than diesel pumping .
 
Solartech  system have a long history in combining with sprinkler irrigation, drip irrigation, infiltrating irrigation and other water-saving irrigation facilities to achieve energy saving for years. Solar pumping system has created new routes of combining water resource and the PV industry.
 
Solartech solar pumping systems have been widely used in more than 100 countries and regions in agricultural irrigation, desert control, pasture husbandry, domestic water, city waterscape, seawater desalination and other fields. Solar pumping system is ideal for irrigation that can effectively improve efficiency of agricultural production and reduce its financial burden, significantly improving quality of life. Currently, solar water pumping and irrigation system has been applied in practical areas in some regions of China to meet irrigation needs of the wheat, rice, corn, potatoes and other crops.
 
Water Conservancy Bureau of Qionghai City , Hainan Province established the first “Solar Water Conservancy Excellent Application”  demonstration project  in 2012.Solartech solar pumping system was used to promote ecological cycle and economic development of Hainan Island via "Solar Water Conservancy". Solartech solar pumping system (PS7500) irrigates 200 acres of tropical crops such as betel nuts, bananas, pineapple, litchi with 25m head and water source is 200m away from the farmland, pumping 260m3/day.

The masses of Yao Tribes in Funing county, Yunnan province were used to store water in water cellars because of poverty and poor living environment. In recent years, continuing drought happened in Yunnan and rainfall was rare, water supply became even scarcer. Immediate solution to solve daily fresh water problem of people and livestock became imperative. In 2013, local government introduced Solartech solar pumping system with head 300m, supplying 60 m3 water daily transporting 1100m, successfully solved the water problem of more than 800 people, greatly guaranteed the Yao Tribes’ production and life.
