Project Introduction:
The Bulambuli District in eastern Uganda has complex terrain and low grid coverage, leaving residents dependent on poorly maintained hand pumps and contaminated shallow wells. Frequent natural disasters and power outages worsen water scarcity, while heavy rains bring fecal coliform bacteria pollution. Fortunately, Uganda’s abundant year-round sunshine makes solar water pumping systems an ideal solution.
In April 2026, a UNDP-funded solar water pumping system, built by Solartech's partner, was launched in Bulambuli. Using a modern design of deep boreholes, solar pumps, elevated storage tanks, and community water points, the project has solved the region's long-standing water supply and contamination problems, delivering clean drinking water to the local community.
Solution:
This UNDP-funded project deployed two sets of Solartech PB-G3 series intelligent solar pumping inverters and stainless steel deep-well submersible pumps based on the groundwater depth and population density of Bulambuli. The system utilizes a "storage instead of battery" logic, operating directly without batteries, to meet the community's daily water needs:
