Since 2009, the application of small-scale farmland irrigation has been widely promoted by each province. Qionghai province utilizes Solartech solar pumps system selected from “2011 Key Promotion Guidance Catalogue of Advanced Practical Technologies” for small-scale farmland projects. Solar water pumping system made easy irrigation for project areas and it is high efficiency and energy saving products. This project is awarded as the “Excellent Demonstration Project of National Water Conservancy Advanced Practical Technology”. Solar water pumping system will improve and push the ecological cycle and economic development of HainanProvince.
The project adopted Solartech solar pumping system(PS7500) to irrigate 200 acres of tropical crops such as betel nuts, bananas, pineapple, litchi under the condition that head is 25m, water source is 200m far away from the farmland with the requirement of 200m3/day. The system can generate 29435 KWH annually, in its 25 years of use, it can save standard coal 278 tons, reduce the carbon emission 122 tons, Sulfur dioxide emission 5.5 tons, soot emission 4.2 tons and 72 tons of ash.
After inspecting the installation site, the official of the water department of Qionghai said to the reporter: before we install solar water pumping system, the harvest of the planted crops depended on the weather, as lacking of irrigation, most of the planted crops are drought tolerant crops, and thus the economic benefit is very low. Now we have solar pumping system which can effectively improve the agricultural production conditions, years of wastelands recently were also recovered by farmers.
The project is subsidized by national finance and province finance department. The total cost for this project is more than 60,000 US dollars including the installation of power plant, pump room, water pipe and so on. System combined sprinkler irrigation, micro irrigation, high standard and efficiency water-saving pipe irrigation. The small-scale farmland irrigation project is not only a national demonstration project, but also a project which benefits farmers; more than 1500 farmers of the project area will take benefits of 25 years free charge irrigation.
Mr Fan Yimin, the General Secretary of Hainan Renewable Energy Association said: Qionghai solar water pumping system project is significant for the whole province promotion. It not only provided technical support of successfully further promotion of high efficiency water saving irrigation, but also solved a big problem of high efficiency water saving irrigation for areas where there lack of grid power in Hainan.
